Changelog

Forged in the open.

JhuMasterclass is an online bladesmithing masterclass from Jesse Hu with curated equipment lists, access to a like-minded community, and a platform for immediate feedback under each individual lesson.

The platform is built and run by Targun Tech. Below is every meaningful change we've implemented, including new features, refinements, and fixes. The goal is to keep things as transparent as possible so that you can trust that the course is evolving alongside you.

  1. The Forge Map

    • New A community map of places to forge. Shared shops, makerspaces, guilds, and well-equipped personal shops, so you can start bladesmithing before you own an anvil. Twelve real places to begin with, from Nashville to Seattle.
    • New The map has its own home at theforgemap.com. Same account, same community, just its own front door.
    • New Know a spot we're missing? Sign in and add it. Name, city, and a link is genuinely all we need, and we'll fill in the rest.
    • New Filter by what you actually need. Type of place, and whether it has a forge, an anvil, a belt grinder, a power hammer, or a heat-treat oven.
    • New Add photos of a shop so the next smith knows what they're walking into.
  2. The whole course, in full color

    • Improved Every single lesson re-mastered with Jesse's final color grade. Same steel, same sparks — just the way it's meant to look.
    • New Captions on every lesson. Tap CC to read along, whether your shop's dead quiet or screaming with the grinder.
    • New A bloopers reel to close things out — because not every heat treat goes to plan. (Contains light swearing.)
  3. Pics or it didn't happen

    • New Add a photo to any lesson comment or community post — show off your latest blade, or that first gloriously wonky one we all start with.
    • New Get an email when someone replies to your comment, so you can stop refreshing the page like a hawk.
  4. Forge Log + About, in one

    • New This page. A running log of every meaningful change we ship, with a bit of context about who built it and why.
    • Fixed Authentication race that occasionally bounced freshly-signed-in users to /login when they clicked Settings or Checkout. Solid now.
  5. Per-lesson Notes

    • New Notes section on every lesson — admins curate freeform context, members read along.
  6. Comments under every lesson

    • New Members can comment on each lesson and reply to each other.
    • New Unified moderation page at /admin/comments — reply, delete, filter by unanswered or video-vs-forum.
  7. Community goes live

    • New The Guild — a single-column feed where members share progress, ask questions, and post critiques.
    • New Inline composer right on the feed — no separate create-post page.
    • Improved Posting is reserved for members. Browsing is open to everyone.
  8. Lifetime membership when you buy the course

    • New Purchasing the chef's-knife masterclass grants lifetime access to the platform — no recurring billing.
    • Fixed Checkout now reliably starts from any signed-in session, including brand-new accounts.
  9. Admin studio

    • New Studio Controls dashboard with cards for Users, Masterclasses, Videos, Analytics, Marketing, Support, and Platform Settings.
    • New Analytics overview — signups, enrollments, posts, orders, and daily trend charts.
    • New Marketing email composer with audience filters and a send-preview pass.
  10. All 45 lessons online

    • New Full beginner bladesmithing course — 11 units, 45 lessons, lifetime access.
    • New In-video chapter markers so you can jump to a section without scrubbing.
    • Improved Adaptive video quality — streams at the highest rung your connection can hold.
  11. Sign in with a code

    • New Magic-link sign-in or a 4-digit code from your inbox — no password required.
    • Improved iOS one-time-code autofill works on the login screen.
  12. Site refresh

    • Improved New Forge Light look across the catalog, course pages, and account screens.
    • Improved Single navigation, no extra menus — every link goes somewhere useful.
